Night has settled over Panamint Springs, California, and the only light comes from the station itself: a red-edged canopy throws a bright pool over two pumps and yellow bollards, while the windows of a long, low GENERAL STORE glow beside it. The hills, sky and road dissolve into deep blues crossed by thin streaks of orange.
