This painting was inspired by a photograph my grandson, Ronan Agnew, took north of Arcata, CA in Humboldt County. He captured the moment just as evening light began to shift across the landscape, casting a pink hue into the clouds while a narrow band of yellow along the horizon illuminated the fields with warm tones.
The diagonal sweep of the road and fields draws the eye toward the distant blue house, quietly set within the open landscape. Like many of my paintings, the work focuses on a simple structure within a broad environment—places that feel familiar yet slightly removed in time. The house becomes a quiet presence in the landscape, emphasizing both the beauty of the momentary light and the enduring character of the rural environment.
