A Joshua tree painted against a blue sky fills the right side of this layered composition, while the left side is built from rectangles of ochre and green, map-like fragments, handwriting and a dark photographic image of rocks. Stenciled words — YUCCA BREVIFOLIA, JOSHUA TREE and ECOSYSTEM — run across and down the surface.

The scene comes from Joshua Tree National Park. Acrylic, photo etching and mixed media on canvas, 40" x 30", 2018.
